WILDERNESS PACK TRIPS
Not Available In 2023

Our passion is guiding multi-day wilderness pack trips throughout the Chugach National Forest and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Most trips are 3 or 4 days of wilderness adventure. Each day is filled with amazing horseback riding in the backcountry in search of wildlife and special views. Group sizes may accommodate around 8 guests. Trips are all-inclusive; we furnish quality camping gear and delicious camp meals. With our short Alaskan season, we can only offer a few trips such as outlined below. In addition, private family and group trips may be customized to fit your needs. Gives us a call and chat about a dream trip in the Alaskan wilderness.

Sign up for our first pack trips of the season.  The snow is still in the high county so we stay on the low lands on this three day two night wilderness trip.  Just a couple hour ride gets us to an area that has several small lakes we like to camp and explore.  Great for bird watching as the spring migration is underway.  A good time of year to look for wildlife and their newborns.    This trip is available throughout the season and easy to customize to fit your needs and schedule.

On this three-day trip we use a horse packer’s rugged old trail to access high mountain valleys of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Amazing views of the Kenai Peninsula flats below us and from out camp the view of the sunset can last for hours over the mountains of the Alaska Range across Cook Inlet. We use the horses to ride to the top of a mountain on day two and have lunch on top of the world! A relaxing pack trip with some fun adventures and great campfires. This is moose county!

Lots of riding on this trip, plan on some extraordinary destinations and possible wildlife viewings on our day trips from out base camp. The mountain valleys we guide you into are exciting and fun to ride through. Permits are rare to guide guests through this part of the Forest and we are privileged to offer this unique trip into this special county.

Available As Custom Package

We venture deep into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge to the bench lands overlooking Tustemena Lake and to the headwaters of glacial fed creeks. This trek takes us over 30 miles back into the homeland of the Killey River Caribou herd. We spend 2 days on an old packer’s trail ( riding through a huge burn, how fun!) getting to our base camp against the Chugach Mountains where we spend 4 amazing days exploring the alpine mountain valleys. This is an extreme wilderness trip that is rarely offered. Our favorite place in the world! This trip is ideal for a custom group adventure.

We can outfit you with a complete camp and pack you and the camp to a great spot in the mountains. Stay as long as you want and then we pick you up and haul you and your camp out. Several spots may offer fishing and back country hiking. These spots are remote and folks should have a good knowledge of camping in the Alaska wilderness. Give us a call and discuss your needs. A great way to have an economical pack trip! Ask us about the Crescent Lake camp that offers Grayling fishing. Call us for a quote.

CAMP TRIPS

Mornings start with a hardy breakfast and cowboy coffee, help us gather and saddle horses or spend time behind the spotting scope searching for wildlife on the mountainside.  Plan on a fun day of riding with the best scenery, wildflowers, and wildlife viewing along thrilling trail riding with our seasoned Alaskan mountain horses.  We always make sure your trip is fun and enjoyable.

Back at camp, relaxing in a camp chair and worn out after an unbelievable great day of mountain riding, plan on a big warm campfire and a hearty meal.  A full evening of watching for wildlife and the sunset on the mountains (if you are up that late). You can watch the horses feed on good grass with your private tent in the distance, and listen for the sounds and the quiet of the wilderness.

WILDLIFE & SCENERY

Most trips are hosted and guided by Alex Kime.  Resurrection Trail, a historical trail from Cooper Landing to Hope, is used to access remote mountain valleys that were used by natives, trappers, hunters and gold miners in the pioneer days. Their old trails are utilized as well as campsites. Wildlife viewing can be hit or miss. We do our best to help you spot wildlife, many of which may be wolves, caribou, moose, brown bear, black bear, sheep, goat, coyote, wolverine, and bird viewing for eagles, hawks, owls, spruce hen and our state bird the ptarmigan. Fishing availability may be an option on custom trips, just ask!
